The impact of urgent computed tomography angiography for gunshot wounds in extremities with concomitant vascular injuries on diagnosis and postoperative outcomes.
Conclusion In the light of our study, we favor the immediate operative exploration of gunshot wounds in extremities with concomitant hard signs of vascular injuries without waiting for preoperative CT angiography, thereby minimizing the shock state and ischemic interval. CT angiography may be required for a more stable patient to avoid unnecessary surgical exploration. PMID: 30041567 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Increased fluorodeoxyglucose activity of a vascular graft representing a potential pitfall of fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging
A 75-year-old man was found to have a right lung nodule on a chest radiograph that was suspicious for a lung malignancy. He was subsequently referred for an 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scan to evaluate the lung nodule. FDG PET/CT confirmed a solitary 1.1 cm spiculated lung nodule that was FDG-avid (maximum standardized uptake value [SUVmax], 6.3) in the posterior segment of the right upper lobe, suspicious for a primary lung malignancy (A and B, arrows). There was no evidence of nodal or distant disease. Incidentally, there was a distinct increase of FDG activity (...

Journal of Vascular Surgery – December 2017 Audiovisual Summary
We would like to tell you about the December issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and some of the key articles. The first paper, by Chandra and co-authors from Stanford, entitled “Management and outcomes of symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysms during the past 20 years,” compares symptomatic patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), defined as those who had new onset abdominal pain or aneurysm tenderness with no rupture found by computed tomography scan or in the operating room. In these patients, the repair of AAA was primarily open from 1995 to 2004 and evolved to primarily endovascular repair during the next decade.

Retrospective Study Comparing WBC scan and 18F-FDG PET/CT in Patients with Suspected Prosthetic Vascular Graft Infection
Prosthetic vascular graft infections (PVGIs) are associated with high mortality rates. To improve treatment outcome, an early and definite diagnosis is critical, and current diagnostic criteria are often insufficient. The accuracy of 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18]-fluoro-d-glucose positron emission tomography integrated with computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) and white blood cell (WBC) scan for the diagnosis of PVGI were compared.

Pulmonary sequestration and endovascular treatment: a case report
We report the case of a 29-year-old-woman presenting with recurrent pneumonia for 5 years. A CT scan of the chest revealed poor vascular formation in the lower region of the right lung. The pulmonary sequestration was treated by embolization of the anomalous branch.

Endovascular repair of traumatic external iliac vessel pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistulae
A 17-year-old male patient presenting with an abdominal gunshot wound and severe hypovolemic shock was initially operated and presented several injuries to the small bowel and cecum associated with severe hemorrhage. The patient had to be operated twice due to hypothermia, acidosis, and coagulopathy. In the late postoperative period, murmur and fremitus were observed. Angiography revealed a pseudoaneurysm associated with arteriovenous fistulae at the left external iliac vessels. Lesions were repaired with a stent graft placed in the external iliac artery, with a satisfactory outcome. Control computed tomography performed 6...

Tomographic anatomy of the vena cava and renal veins: features relevant to vena cava filter placement
CONCLUSIONS: The radiological correlation between the confluence of the more distal renal vein and vertebral bodies exhibits little variation, irrespective of the biotype of the patient.

Surgical treatment of a primary external iliac vein aneurysm

AGEs accumulation is related to muscle degeneration and vascular calcification in peritoneal dialysis patients
CONCLUSIONS: The study revealed associations between AGEs accumulation and lower muscle stiffness/density. Associations that linked muscle degeneration parameters with vascular calcification were observed.PMID:33650629 | DOI:10.1590/2175-8239-JBN-2020-0119

Giant renal artery pseudoaneurysm 18 months after blunt trauma
We describe the case of a patient who presented with a pulsatile mass in the right upper quadrant and recurrent abdominal pain 18 months after blunt trauma. Arteriography and multislice computed tomography angiography revealed a pseudoaneurysm measuring 22 cm in the right renal artery. The patient was successfully treated with conventional open surgery.

Agenesis of the internal carotid artery
This report aims to highlight the importance of suspecting vascular malformations during investigation of neurological conditions. Internal carotid agenesis has a significant association with intracranial aneurysms and their early detection can spare the patient serious complications.

The value of 18F-FDG-PET-CT in the management of infective native aortic aneurysms.
CONCLUSION: The literature on 18F-FDF-PET/CT for diagnosing infective native aortic aneurysms is scarce. However, there might be a role for 18F-FDF-PET/CT in the management of the disease, in particular for patients with clinical suspicion of INAA without convincing findings on CT. SUVmax values ranging from 4.5 to 6.5 could be guiding and suggestive of metabolic activity in agreement of INAA. However, further conclusions on its usefulness, robustness and specific SUVmax values are premature, and a definitive cut-off value is probably not attainable.
